How to Realize and Recognize the Impact of Community Violence on Program Participants and Staff
Afterschool programs are consistently a refuge for students and families. They are important in developing and building social, emotional, and resiliency in youth. However, with escalating rates of gun violence and uncertainty it is inevitable that external issues will impact youth and staff in your program. This workshop will provide participants with the recommended best practices that should have been proven to help support youth and staff deal with the aftermath and impact of community crisis. It will also provide participants with information about the recommended strategies to use if you suspect a student may be potentially violent, vulnerable or expressing suicidal ideations.
