Membership Information

Who Can Join

  • Child care workers, teachers, assistants and directors

Benefits of Membership

  • Information and discounts on IAN sponsored regional and state workshops and conferences.  This includes our annual Spring and Fall Conferences; Annual Leadership Institute sponsored in conjunction with the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST), National School-Age Care Alliance Endorser Training and other professional development opportunities.
  • Subscription to the IAN quarterly newsletter, "Illinois School-Age Scene"
  • Opportunity to submit innovative and scholarly articles to appear in the newsletter.  "School-Age Scene"
  • Participation in selection of IAN Board of Directors from your region.
  • Vote on matters brought before membership.
  • Become a part of the IAN Speaker's Bureau for Presenters and Speakers.
  • Become an automatic member of the National AfterSchool Association where you will receive national information pertaining to school-age issues along with a copy of the quarterly membership type selected (see below)

Rollover Memberships

The IAN is now offering rollover memberships.  This means that once we have received your membership form along with payment, your membership is valid until next year.  For instance, if you send in your membership form and check in November of 2002, it is valid until November of 2003!

Committee Information:

By-Laws Committee:

  • Will be responsible for reviewing and recommending revisions of By-laws and Policies.
  • Will oversee incorporation process.
  • Will be responsible for developing orientation packet and orientation for new board members at the first meeting of the fiscal year (October).
  • Will serve as Parliamentary Advisor to Board President. Will review and recommend policies on affiliation with other organizations and/or appointment of board member-at-large.

Newsletter Committee:

  • Will be responsible for content and editing of newsletter.

Public Awareness Committee:

  • Will develop systems for keeping themselves and the Illinois AfterSchool Network membership aware of state and federal issues regarding school-age children and their families.
  • Will develop a system for informing public officials important to school-age children and their families.
  • Will develop methods for contacting appropriate media outlets and other public relation avenues.

Finance Committee:

  • Will be responsible for preparing and monitoring the annual Illinois AfterSchool Network budget.
  • Will develop fundraising projects.
  • Will prepare and maintain a list of resources for grant writing.
  • Will initiate an internal audit of Illinois AfterSchool Network account.

Membership Committee:

  • Will develop recruitment techniques for Illinois AfterSchool Network.
  • Will develop and periodically review benefit package for members of Illinois AfterSchool Network.
  • Will develop marketing tools for Illinois AfterSchool Network.

Professional Development Committee:

  • Will plan, implement and evaluate conferences.
  • Will be aware of higher education opportunities in the area of school-age child care.
  • Will develop and maintain a speaker's bureau on topics related to school-age child care.

The Illinois AfterSchool Network will recognize and celebrate the diversity of the children of Illinois, and will act to increase the representation and participation in Network activities of persons who are members of minority elements by reasons of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, geographic location, handicap, or sexual orientation. The President, Nominating Committee and Conference Committee will attempt to select persons who will act to further these goals in all Network activities, including but not limited to: training, advocacy, resource allocation, and quality enhancement; and to achieve the Network's purpose as stated in the By-Laws for the benefit of every child regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, geographic location, handicap or sexual orientation.
