This is part of the IAN Annual Leadership Institute Series for First Time Supervisors and Emergent Leaders.

High quality programs are supported by a well-balanced team of professionals whose collective talents and energy are well matched. The Program Leader is charged with recruiting, hiring and guiding this talent that is often an intergenerational, diverse staff. This role is especially important at a time when recruiting staff has unique challenges in a Post-Covid Era. Come learn tips and techniques for identifying and hiring staff with the skills and traits needed to support the business of managing your program.

Learning objectives:

Program Leaders will learn to identify the staff skills and traits needed to form a well-balanced, diverse team to address all areas of running a quality program.

Program Leaders will participate in a discussion about current ideas for recruiting staff during a Post-Covid Era with unique staffing challenges.Program Leaders will learn practical techniques for recruiting, interviewing and hiring staff.

Program Leaders will create an action list to implement following the training.

IAN Facilitator: Tracey Ballas has been a devoted leader in the after-school field in a variety of ways. After many years of running programs in public schools, churches and YMCA’s, Tracey became the director of the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association and the Ohio Project on Out-of-School Time. She is one of the founders of the National AfterSchool Association and served as president for six years. Tracey also is one of the founders and past president of the Ohio AfterSchool Network. Additionally, Tracey has been an education and training associate for the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST). As a trainer and consultant, Tracey has worked across the United States and Europe with programs large and small, single and multi-site, for-profit and not-for-profit, military and civilian. She is the author of Targeted Leadership: Building a Team That Hits the Mark! She has been featured in Child, Working Mother, Parenting and Child Care Information Exchange magazines.
