Training Topic: OK2BMe – Bullying and Body Image – Impact and Strategies to Work with Youth
Bullying happens for many youth in different situations. They can include overweight and underweight youth who have a tendency to be at a higher risk for being bullied because they look different. Not only does bullying come from their peers, but family members and others. Many times friends and family members are not even aware that teasing has a negative impact on them. Also, youth are no longer able to just go home to get away from bullying as social media makes it a 24-hour issue. During this session, we will discuss the types of bullying and how they impact and can lead to eating disorders. What should we, as youth development professionals be aware of; what strategies do we implement to assist those on the receiving end; and, how do we educate others on what is hurtful. Moreover, we will discuss how to build positive character and resiliency from a strengths based approach with you in our respective program. The session will be facilitated by Tina Carpenter, IAN trainer and Chief Executive Officer of the Carbondale Boys and Girls Club. Please do not forget to VOTE!
