Trainer: Cynthia Townsend @ IDEAS, KNOWLEDGE & STRATEGIES LLC
Focus: Knowledge + Skills + Social Connectedness
Older youth in our programs often face multiple challenges in their personal lives; from trying to understand how to apply to a college, to aging out of the foster care system, to addictions. Sometimes these challenges are voiced, often they are not. Whether voiced or unvoiced, our programs should strive to fully support all the youth we serve. After this workshop series, organizations will be equipped to develop a practical plan or strengthen their current plan for providing life skills and post-secondary guidance to the older youth that serve.
*Cynthia Townsend is former Director of Education of a large community center that served youth Pre-K through high school. During this time, she worked to equip and guide staff in creating safe spaces with boundaries, for older youth. Added insight on this topic is her personal story of navigating life after foster care and working with others leaving the foster care system.
