Description: Educators and Program Leaders: banish math anxiety and foster a genuine love of math for ourselves and the youth we serve! Through practical, hands-on strategies and accessible activities, you’ll explore how to support math skill growth in ways that are relevant and engaging. You’ll leave these two sessions with low-pressure approaches to build math confidence, spark curiosity, and bring career-connected learning into everyday moments with youth.
Objectives:
- Help youth connect math concepts to real-world applications and career paths through engaging, low-pressure activities.
- Build youth confidence in math by incorporating strengths-based, inclusive strategies that reduce anxiety and promote curiosity.
- Equip yourself and your team with adaptable tools that integrate math practice into daily routines.
Audience: Youth-serving educators, supervisors, and program coordinators

Facilitator Katie Schober has seventeen years of after-school, out-of-school, and classroom experience as an educator, including in teaching math and supporting middle-school and high school students with math skill development after school. She now supports programs in integrating hands-on STEAM equipment into their settings and collaborates with local businesses to produce hands-on career exploration experiences for after-school programs and classrooms. She believes that hands-on learning sparks and sustains students’ passions. She started STEAM Milwaukee to help educators provide equitable opportunities to their students.
