Marcy Peake @ The Center for Cultural Agility
Focus: Community + Social Connectedness
In an ever-changing world, social connections can be challenging to find, navigate, and maintain for children and adults. Children first learn about making social connections from their observations and engagement with the adults in their lives. Through invoking adult self-awareness, evoking deliberate adult skill building, and provoking opportunities for children to explore thoughts, feelings, and actions, we can create culturally agile communities that inspire social connection. This two-part session begins with strategies for adults to assess, demonstrate, and cultivate social connection skills with children in their personal and professional capacities, and concludes with inspiring ideas for organizations to create opportunities to cultivate social connect within and between organizations.
Objectives:
- Establish a common fund of knowledge for words and concepts (shared understanding)
- Explore the variety of ways social connection manifests (disrupting one correct way to connect)
- Inspire self-awareness of social connection skills demonstrated with and in front of children (adult/child connections)
- Assess current organizational activities that align with individual and collective social connections (review current internal capacities and practices)
- Create ideas for internal and external actions and activities to cultivate opportunities to build social connections
