Working with young people can be incredible, confusing, hilarious, frustrating, and sometimes all of those things in the same five minutes. Behavior doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Behind what we see are thoughts, feelings, experiences, developmental needs, and young people trying to understand themselves and the world around them. This two-session training invites participants to look beyond behavior and explore what changes when we move from simply managing young people toward working in partnership with them. We’ll examine our own assumptions and explore how trust, respect, voice, choice, consistency, and belonging shape relationships across different ages. Participants will try strategies between sessions and return ready to explore what worked, what didn’t, and what happened when things got hard. Together we’ll build practical approaches for communication, motivation, conflict, boundaries, and repair while remembering that strong relationships don’t remove expectations. They create the conditions for growth.
